Part 2 of INIQUITY NEWS #21_____________________________________________ The 2000 Rubber Ball I am happy to report that this year's Rubber Ball was without a doubt the best Rubber Ball I have ever been to! Set once again at the Hammersmith Palais in central London, the Ball brought forth over 2000 attendees from around the globe. This year, SKIN TWO chose the folks at Torture Garden to pretty much run all the nuts and bolts of the event and I can tell you that TG brought with them, one hell of a clean and professional edge. The theme of the RB 2000 was "Fairies," and needless to say about one out of every 5 attendees was sporting a pair if wings -- feather wings, leather wings, large wings, small wings, white wings, black wings, metal wings, opalescent wings, etc, etc, etc. As usual there was absolutely no S&M play allowed at the Rubber Ball. Instead a very high energy international crowd danced their butts off to the excellent house-techno mix, some of which was spun by Allen TG himself. The real prize of the night however was an AMAZING fashion show timed and choreographed to perfection. With stage decorations simulating flaming bonfires and flowery bowers, and a backdrop which included full-on concert-style video screens on either side of the stage, the production was seamless and Paris-Runway professional. Not that the RB fashion show was anything nearly as sedate at a Paris show however. Each and every designer represented was introduced via the video screens with professional logos and a mixture of stills and video. The designer choices themselves were spectacular and often the vignettes included theatrics and even acrobatics. When the stage was without the immaculate designs of some of Fetish Fashion's best, a group of improvisational dancers and acrobats gave the audience a continuing ambience of entertainment and atmosphere coherent with the night's theme. On top
of a most magical Rubber Ball was the entire weekend of events prior to the
Ball. Torture Garden held a 1200 person party of their own only a few
nights prior, and the night before the Rubber Ball SKIN TWO had a Fetish Dress
Code sumptuous buffet dinner at a traditional Fetish club location. In
fact, with the presumed heat of the dance floor at the upcoming Rubber Ball, it
seemed as though most people who attended the dinner the night before saved
their most exotic latex gowns and evening wear for the dinner party and wore
the skimpier clothing and outfits for the RB itself. For the S&M
players there were any number of after-parties and pre-parties where whips were
swung freely. The
Night Of Passion, or "Die Nacht der
Leidenshaft" You must start by picturing a lone mountain road in the foothills of the Bavarian alps. For those of you with good geographical sense this places us about an hour and a half north-east from Munich. Without the directions and knowing the location of the event, you would honestly have a prayer in hell of finding this place, and this place is a REAL, bonafide, CASTLE, with 4 floors and a moat and drawbridge! The style of the building is a more modern German-Schloss style, which basically translates into the building being more about opulence than defense against invaders, i.e. more of a "palace" and fancier decor rather than crenellations along any non-existent catwalks. First off let me say that the exchange rate at the time was incredible and more than 2 Deutchmark to the U.S. dollar, so when I tell you the incredibly LOW prices we paid for all this do take the exchange rate into consideration. Regardless, we reached the outskirts of Munich in our budget rental car about an hour before sunset. The roads around Munich get a bit crazy, but all in all with a good map it was relatively easy to navigate. We found ourselves driving on a major highway heading out of Munich as we followed the directions. Somewhere around 45 minutes outside of Munich, with the sun dipping below the horizon we managed to pass our turn-off, realized this within about 5-10 miles (fortunately) and turned around to exit on what appeared to be an absolutely featureless and ordinary country road which pointed its two lanes straight north into the hills and what appeared to be sparsely populated homesteads. Somewhere out there was a Castle?? Well, our map was good and the directions were good so far, so we just drove. To picture arriving at the castle I can only hope that you have seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show at least once and can recall the image of a huge manor house more or less by itself along a dark road, with all manner of expensive cars parked around it and next to it. When I say expensive btw I am referring to what these German cars would cost us over here -- they seem to be a lot cheaper for Germans who buy them in Germany -- go figure. ;-) When we arrived in the tiny village where the Castle is located it was pitch black out. The village consisted of a few shops, a few houses, the requisite bakery and bank, and a single gas-station. We knew we were in the right village by way of the mile marker and a tiny sign that could easily have been missed with the village's name on it. There was only one road through the town and we were told we couldn't miss the Castle. Well, after we could not find anything quite castle like, we stopped at the gas-station, and the owners laughed and pointed across the street. I got back into the car and discovered that by day, yes you could not miss it, but by night until you turn down a side road and can see around the trees and fences, your best bet is to catch a glimpse of perhaps a lone conical tower. Around the trees and fences on the other hand, and WHAM!!! There you were looking up at a huge, white-walled edifice with red tile towers and small but creative lights adorning it to make it look just impressive enough. By the time we arrived at 8pm-ish I was somewhat daunted to see a completely full parking lot and the streets just out side of that filling up as fast as the immaculately crowd could arrive. I had personally been hoping to arrive at the Castle, check into my room there -- yep, part of the deal we got included a room Right There In The Castle -- have time to shower, etc. Unfortunately this party generates a LOT of interest and excitement and when we arrived in our driving rags the place was already filling with Fetish Clad guests and the party had basically already commenced. Suffice it to say I was somewhat embarrassed to even be going to the check in desk in anything less than Full Fetish. In our
small and cozy-but-well-equipped room we prepared ourselves. The room was
only an additional $30 for the night -- absolute pennies by ANY standard!
The party itself was $25 per person. So what did the party have?
Check it out: About 350 people attended the event, and at least 90% were in INIQUITY-quality High-Fetish Fashion even though the event "officially" did not have a dress code. My guess is that the reputation this event has is such that most people would not be caught dead showing up in anything less than some of their Fetish Best. Some of the S&M equipment itself was more than noteworthy. These were large metal structures with release pins and swivel mounts such that this single piece of furniture could be re-positioned into a dozen different utilitarian S&M furniture positions. Very cool and very expensive, but also most likely able to withstand a blow-torch (i.e. super strong). Although German was obviously the language of the night, most people we met spoke pretty good English and we had some great conversations with people from around Bavaria. Amongst other things, as to be expected a lot of people from the Munich Scene came up for the party and so we gained a bit of info about that. Well fed and in good spirits (drinks were extra) the crowd partied and played continuously until the wee hours of the morning. In terms of fashion, the majority wore black rubber, leather and PVC, with about 20% sporting any other color. There were some truly unique designs along side a very classy and well-crafted assortment of high-quality black leather clothing, much of which seemed custom tailored. The average age of the crowd was probably 30-35, and a wide spectrum of people attended. The location was remote enough that without a doubt one felt extremely free to be whoever one wanted to be for the night, far away from media or press or any cameras for that matter which were not allowed at the event. Truly this was an escape into a magical Fetish Castle out of some wild storybook. In short, I absolutely cannot recommend Xclusiv Events and their Castle Parties enough. Out of 5 stars I would give it all 5 without hesitation. Oh, and a buffet breakfast was included the next morning as well, where a whole bunch of bleary-eyed guests with huge grins on their faces met once again to chat before departing back into Real Life. ;-) _________________________________
